This is Finley’s first published piece which has been a small passion project for the past few years. Only recently has he sat down and written it. Opulence is a story based in the fantasy genre, acknowledging the tropes it attempts to replicate, using them in (hopefully) an interesting way.
INTRODUCTION
This is my first published piece which has been a small passion project for the past few years. Only recently have I sat down and written it. Opulence is a story based in the fantasy genre, acknowledging the tropes it attempts to replicate, using them in (hopefully) an interesting way.
SYNOPSIS
Opulence is the story of a man named Sigil who has grown up in the poorest part of the Vire Empire. He has lived long under the fist of their ruler. His family and friends all struggle to get by, scrounging for food and money to survive. The man behind the oppression is the only way their sorrows can be solved. Everyone lives in fear, but there are those who wish for a better life. Sigil takes it on himself to kill the dark lord that watches over them.
The story also follows Kheye, the dark lord and ruler of Vire. He has forged an Empire built on industrialism and helped usher in a new age of technology and science. During his rule, he has strived to push humanity into the future. However, he has lived for many years and the power of immortality is starting to take a toll.
Both characters are pitted against one another in this tale of good and evil. Both believe that they are doing what is best for their people. But who is truly doing the right thing? Is it that simple, or is there more at play?
